Thomas Saunders is professor at the department of History at the University of Victoria. His general area of research is Germany between the wars. The major thematic concerns, in ascending order of specificity, are culture and society, the cinema's interaction with business, the state, and the press, and the significance of public scandal for the political process. Thomas currently is writing a monograph which treats the points of intersection between cinema and other forms of public authority or persuasion and conducting research on the ways in which scandal and sensation were understood and exploited in Germany during the 1920s.
