Biró, Dániel Péter

Dániel Péter Biró is Assistant Professor of Composition and Music Theory at the University of Victoria in Victoria, Canada. A Ph.D. fellow in music and Judaic studies at Princeton University, his dissertation consisted of a comparative study of early notation systems. In 2006 he was a research fellow at the University of Victoria Centre for Studies in Religion and Society: there he investigated the interaction of musical and textual syntax in Jewish Torah cantillation and in ninth century plainchant from St. Gallen. His writings have dealt with the music of Schubert and Mahler, with German critical theory as well as with 20th and 21st century music and musical culture in Germany. In 2006 he was a featured composer at the Darmstadt Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik.
