KREBS, Harald

Harald Krebs (PhD Yale University) is head of the theory section at the School of Music at the University of Victoria. He has published widely on the tonal and rhythmic structure of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century music in Canadian, American and European journals, and in numerous collections of essays. His book Fantasy Pieces: Metrical Dissonance in the Music of Robert Schumann appeared with Oxford University Press in 1999; in 2002, this book won the Society for Music Theory's Wallace Berry Award for a distinguished book in music theory. Harald's research on the life and songs of Josephine Lang (1815-80) led to the book Josephine Lang: Her Life and Songs (co-author Sharon Krebs), published in 2007 by Oxford University Press, with a CD of 30 songs recorded by the authors and Josephine Lang.
