KLASSEN, Doreen Helen

Doreen Helen Klassen (PhD Indiana) is an Associate Professor in the Social/Cultural Studies Program at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College (Corner Brook, NL) and invited Faculty in Ethnomusicology in the School of Music (St. John's) at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Broadly, Dr. Klassen's research interests include: gesture in women’s storytelling (Zimbabwe and Botswana); the politics of public art (wall mural production in Winnipeg, Manitoba); gendered identity in public and private space (laundry practices in western Newfoundland); and Mennonite identity and expressive behaviour: oral Mennonite history in Belize and Mexico, the politics of Mennonite religous music and vernacular Low German song (e.g., Singing Mennonite: Low German Songs among the Mennonites, University of Manitoba Press), and applied ethnomusicology.
