Jean Wilson (PhD Toronto) has recently been appointed Director of the distinctive, interdisciplinary Arts & Science Program at McMaster University (effective 1 July 2011, after her research leave in 2010-11). An Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics & Languages at McMaster, she is cross-appointed to the innovative Arts & Science Program, and also contributes to programs in English & Cultural Studies, Peace Studies, and Gender Studies & Feminist Research. Generally, her research interests pertain to Comparative Literature, German literature, and interdisciplinary studies. Dr. Wilson's current project focuses on Christa Wolf's notion of literature as peace research in relation to the writings of Heinrich von Kleist. She is also co-editing (with Paola and Hartwig Mayer) a collection of essays in memory of Hans Eichner, and is working to apply Northrop Frye's educational theory to questions of the role of literary studies in 21st-century university teaching and learning. A committed instructor, she has received the McMaster Students’ Union Teaching Award, the President’s Award for Excellence in Instruction, and the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations Teaching Award.
