COMAY, Rebecca

Rebecca Comay (PhD Toronto) is Professor of Philosophy, Comparative Literature, and Literary Studies, associate member of Jewish Studies and the German Department, and Co-Director of the Literary Studies Program, at the University of Toronto. Her primary research and publication areas include: 19th and 20th century continental philosophy (especially Hegel and post-Hegelian philosophy, Frankfurt school, contemporary French philosophy); psychoanalytic theory; memory and trauma studies (including issues of historical trauma and commemoration and > post-holocaust representation); literary and aesthetic theory; and > contemporary art and architecture. Recently (2010) Stanford University Pressed published her Mourning Sickness: Hegel and the French Revolution. Her current projects > include: a project on ruins, revolutionary erasure, and the theological-political idea of the tabula rasa; a project on hypochondria and the end of life (Kant and Proust); and a project on inheritance.
