Christine Lehleiter (PhD Indiana) is Assistant Professor of German in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Toronto. Her research and teaching interests focus on the intersection between literature and the life sciences in the > eighteenth and nineteenth century, and specifically: German Literature and Culture from the 18th to the 21st century; Literature and the Life Sciences; Aesthetic Theory; Gender Studies; Weimar and Nazi Cinema; Cross-cultural Relations (in particular German-Indian connections); and Ideas of Original Sin. Currently, she is working on a book-length project entitled Land, Money, and Blood: the Significance of Inheritance for Notions of the Self in German Literature and Thought around 1800, which examines biological, legal, and literary discourses on inheritance and their impact on the concept of modern subjectivity.
