Diana Spokiene studied German literature, linguistics and sociology at the universities of Vilnius (Dipl.Phil.), New Brunswick (MA) and Alberta (PhD). Her research and teaching areas are modern German literature, gender and cultural production, inter/cultural studies, and small nations in the context of globalization. Her recent publications include the edition of Friederike Helene Unger’s Briefe über Berlin (2006) and articles on city and identity in German women’s writing, intercultural literacies and German in the classroom, and Lithuanian literature. She is currently working on a project on cultural mediations on the city in eighteenth century German women’s writing. Affiliated faculty of the Canadian Centre of German and European Studies at York University.
